I recently started writing an hour-long drama about porn industry. While I’ve never participated in it (yet…), I’ve done more than enough research to know why it’s the 18 billion dollar machine it is today.

Porn isn’t some hidden corner of the Internet. Analysts estimate that about one-quarter of all web searches are for porn. Online porn helped to build the Internet. It was the cutting edge of e-commerce when sites like Amazon were just starting. But today, the porn industry is suffering. It’s got lots of eyeballs, but fewer are paying to view.

Once upon a time, porn was one of the only industries comprised of independent contractors, but today numerous Americans are self-employed. Everyone from Uber drivers to publicists to project managers work as independent contractors. This trend will continue to grow. Thus we can learn about both sex positions and finance tips from porn stars.
